Dedicated to the memory of Steven Robert Dempster known to many as Stig
This site is a tribute to Steven Robert Dempster known to many as Stig, who was born in Ulverston to Derek and Gina Dempster on November 02, 1970. He leaves behind a beloved father Derek, a much loved sister Vicky and her daughter Georgia, a brother Wayne, and a very dear friend Graeme and the dog he loved Paddy.
He was loved by most he touched and was a true friend to many
He went to School in Ulverston where he stayed onto 6th Form. He went to University of Lancaster and did his first degree following it up with a teaching qualification at St. Martins College Lancaster.
After an interval looking for work and working in the Kings Arms Pub in Ulverston he got a job teaching in Bolton. This was not a happy time in his life and he let to return to Lancaster to do a Masters Degree followed by his PHD which made him very proud.
He loved his later working years at University of Lancaster working in a department he loved. He also had pride in becoming Dean of County College at the University. He was very saddened when he illness forced him to resign but died with a place in the college as Vice Principle.

The sad demise of my PhD supervisor Dr Steve Dempster came as huge shock to me. He was a real gentleman and demonstrated exemplary self dignity by not making his students aware of his difficult personal circumstances. Being a distance student, I never met Steve in person, which will be a source of perpetual regret for me. However, Steve’s demise has given me a renewed resolve to complete my PhD, something he would have been very pleased about.
During my academic interaction with Steve, I was immensely impressed by his knowledge, insight and meticulousness. Steve was selflessly devoted to his job and honoured his professional commitments to the very end. He was very prompt in providing feedback on my work. For instance, I received his detailed feedback on my draft thesis chapter comprising 13,000 words within a couple of days.
Like many others, I shall miss him hugely.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends and I pray for their solace in this hour of grief.
