I worked with Steve (and Joanne Thistlethwaite) on the British Academy-funded 'Harry Potter and Boys' Literacies' project. Steve was an invaluable member of the team, particularly with the quant. stuff. More important however was his skill in running focus groups with kids and young adults. He got them to talk and they clearly enjoyed the experience. Glad to be one of his co-authors.
